Manifested by inflammation, pain, functional disability and joint deformation, Rheumatoid arthritis mainly affects women, though it can affect people of all ages.

Those affected are at a greater risk of several other diseases such as stomach ulcers, protein loss, anemia and malnutrition. It is also an autoimmune disease, the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues, especially the membranes in the joints.

In fatal development, Rheumatoid arthritis can damage many organs and internal systems resulting in permanent  joint destruction and deformity. There is no known cure for Rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoarthritis is characterized by pain in the joints, mainly hips and knees and also can appear arthritis in fingers. Usually there is a progressive painful erosion of the joints cartilage. It is caused by overloading the joints with excess weight or labour. It can also be caused by obesity.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease manifested by the deterioration of cartilage. This results in the body rubbing against each other, causing pain and stiffness in the joints. Overtime, Osteoarthritis can damage your ligaments and muscles.

There are two different types of arthritis, primary and secondary.

In primary, it is influenced by ageing as you continue to wear and tear.
For secondary Osteoarthritis, it is caused by specific predicaments such as injuries or obesity.

It affects the knees, hands, shoulders and hips. It usually occurs in mid-life. It has no cure. Development of Osteoarthritis is influenced by factors such as age, injuries, obesity, muscle weakness and genetics.

Although the above examples are the most common of arthritis, there are other types too.

In teenagers, arthritis is referred to as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It can be mild(pauciarticular), moderate (poly articular) or fatal(systemic). It all depends on the severity of the disease manifested through the number of joints that are affected and aching. This disease is characterised by loss of appetite, anemia, swelling of joints and rashes in the legs and arms.

There is another known as Infectious arthritis. Also called septic arthritis, it is caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses that spread through the blood , infecting joints. This usually affects those already suffering from one of the other main from of arthritis. It is manifested by signs of fever, inflammation in the joints and swelling.

Arthritis is one of the many lifestyle choice related diseases. Triggered by choices such as inappropriate diets that include alcohol, coffee, fast foods, meat and artificial sugars in excessive quantities definitely leave you debilitated.

Treatment for arthritis.

The odds of recuperation are minimal especially in the latter stages of its development.

With other predicaments such as high costs of illness management, risk of not being employed, health insurance costs, social stigma among others, arthritis is definitely not a disease to overlook.

Arthritis can be avoided and its health risk factors are successfully managed.
