1. Eat Salty/Greasy Food

Getting a full meal in your stomach after a night of drinking is key. You need to soak up all that alcohol that is just sitting there like a weight in your stomach dragging you down. If you eat healthy all the time, this is your time to cheat. If you wake up and feel awful, go get some fast food, and something that is high in salt. Salt actually helps replenish electrolytes in your body.

2. Rest

This may not be an option for you at the time, but you need to try to find time to get some rest if you’re feeling hangover. In some cases time is the only thing that can really make that awful feeling go away. If you wake up hangover, don’t just jump out of bed immediately and start your day. Lay in your bed for a little while first and try to clear your head. It is always best to prepare the night before for your hangover as well, so you can give yourself a sufficient amount of time try to sleep it off.

3. Baking Soda

You may hate the taste, but if it is going to make you feel better, it is worth it. Baking soda actually neutralizes stomach acids which should help if you’re feeling sick to your stomach or if you feel like you need to puke. If you don’t have any baking soda on hand you may want to purchase some Alka-Seltzer tablets for your next hangover, as they contain baking soda, and have been used as a hangover cure for many years.

4. Aromatherapy

Believe it or not, certain aromas actually are said to speed up the process of getting over a hangover. Essential oils such as lavender or peppermint are helpful for nausea and and headaches. By placing a few drops of oil on the bottom of the shower and covering the drain, you create a steam that will rise to your face and make you feel refreshed almost immediately. You can also use an oil burner or apply a small amount to your body.

5. Prevention

The absolute best thing you can do for a hangover is planning on not having one, or at least minimizing it as much as possible. When going out drinking try to stick to one type of alcohol such as beer OR liquor. Also shots aren’t a good idea. It is still possible to go out and party and have fun without having to get so drunk we wake up the next day being punished for it. Chasing each drink you have with a glass of water is said to help as well.

In the end, only you will know what works for you.  Chances are you will have another hangover at some point in your life whether you like it or not. Just make sure that when that time comes you are prepared for it and know how to shake the hangover before the hangover shakes you!
