4 Major Diseases That May Be Prevented With Good Nutrition.

It is no great secret that the shape of our bodies – both literally and figuratively, depend on what we put into them. A diet that regularly includes junk food, soda, and other unhealthy snacks offers little to no benefit. And people who eat this way are often overweight and wind up suffering from some type of food-related health issue.

However a well-balanced diet and exercise combine to form the foundation of a healthy life. A well-balanced diet can also help you prevent a range of health issues.

4 Major Diseases That May Be Prevented With Good Nutrition. Here is a list of some of the health issues and how you can prevent them with good nutrition.

  • Heart Disease – A diet that is filled with fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while low in saturated fats can lower blood pressure and cholesterol, two of the main culprits of heart disease. A healthy diet also promotes healthy weight, which is important as obesity is often directly linked to heart disease.
  • Type 2 Diabetes – Because obesity is a major factor in developing Type 2 Diabetes, maintaining a healthy weight through diet is the most effective way to combat it. Reducing your fat intake, eating more high-fiber foods, and getting regular exercise also lower the risks of this disease.
  • Osteoporosis – Eating low-fat foods that are rich in calcium as well as Vitamin D can help build healthy bones, which fights osteoporosis. Adults younger than age 50 should get 1000 mg of calcium per day, while those older than age 50 should aim for 1200 mg each day. Meanwhile they should try to eat 600 international units of Vitamin D per day.
  • Cancer – A wide range of foods from every food group helps fight obesity, which increases cancers of the uterus, colon, kidney, breast, and esophagus. While no single food prevents cancer, a balanced diet that includes cruciferous vegetables and berries can help. Fruits and vegetables should be the main part of every meal as well as frequent snacks.

Just because you follow a healthy diet that provides the necessary balance between the different food groups is no guarantee that you will escape disease for your entire life. Other factors come into play, such as lifestyle habits like smoking or environmental factors like chemicals in tap water.

When it comes to getting enough exercise, it is not necessary to go out and buy a gym membership. Just 30 to 60 minutes a day of brisk walking or some other exercise that gets your heart rate up can help maintain a healthy weight. Increase that amount by 30 minutes extra to help trim those extra pounds.

Natural health education author Andrew Saul once shared, “Good nutrition and vitamins do not directly cure disease, the body does. You provide the raw materials and the inborn wisdom of your body makes the repairs.” While this is no substitute for doctors, he does have a point.

When Diet Is Not Enough

Sometimes it is impossible to maintain a balanced diet that provides the necessary vitamins and minerals for staying healthy and preventing diseases such as the ones listed above. This could be due to a dental issue, like discomfort when eating with bad or false teeth, or a dietary issue such as a food allergy or lactose intolerance.

In these cases it is necessary to take a vitamin supplement that provides not only the necessary nutrients required to stay healthy, but also antioxidants like glutathione. You may be asking yourself, what is glutathione? Glutathione is the mother of all antioxidants.

Antioxidants fight free radicals, which are damaged cells. When cells are damaged it leaves your body vulnerable to diseases, from the common cold and the flu to cancer and Alzheimer’s. Although your body produces some antioxidants, as you get older your body needs more.

That is because as you get older, changes to your body, your lifestyle, and your diet leave you open to health issues that you may have easily avoided in your youth. But taking a multivitamin that contains glutathione and other antioxidants can help you go on living the healthy lifestyle to which you are accustomed well past retirement.
